Lift Your Voice in Praise
Music has a special way of touching the heart, strengthening our faith, and bringing us together in worship. At Glen Burnie United Methodist Church, our Music Ministry offers an opportunity to share God-given musical gifts while helping lead our congregation in praise.
Under the direction of Music Director Kathi Hiett, our Chancel Choir provides music for the 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship service and rehearses each Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The choir also presents special music throughout the Christian year. At Christmas and Easter, our voices are enriched by additional professional singers and instrumentalists from Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra and Peabody Institute.
Is God Calling You to Sing?
If you love to sing and feel called to use your voice to praise God, we invite you to consider becoming part of our Chancel Choir.
Because the choir performs challenging choral arrangements, members need to be able to read music. We recognize, however, that not everyone who loves to sing has had the opportunity to learn music reading—or perhaps it has simply been many years since you last used those skills.
Please don't let that discourage you. It is never too late to learn or refresh your skills.
Anne Arundel Community College offers music instruction for those interested in developing their musical knowledge. Its Music Fundamentals course includes musical notation, rhythm, melody, and harmony, and AACC also offers personal-enrichment music instruction covering basics such as reading notes, chords, and scales.
You can also find many excellent beginner music-reading and music-theory courses online that allow you to learn at your own pace.
Whether you are an experienced choral singer or someone preparing to sing with a choir for the first time, we encourage you to develop the musical gifts God has given you.
Come learn. Come sing. Come make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
