Who We are

The heritage of Glen Burnie United Methodist Church reflects a rich journey of faith shaped by three early congregations and the growth of three church buildings, but most importantly by the faithful people who have sustained God’s spirit in this community for over 150 years. From its beginnings in 1860 as Gideon Chapel Methodist Protestant Church, the congregation grew through relocation, expansion, and renaming—becoming Warfield Chapel, then Glen Burnie Methodist Church, and ultimately Glen Burnie United Methodist Church after the 1968 denominational merger. Along the way, the church expanded its facilities (1926, 1952, 1965, 2001, 2017) and its ministries, including a radio ministry (1963), bus ministry (1980), and contemporary worship service (2008), continually adapting to meet the spiritual and practical needs of a growing and changing community.
